I’ve written about my extensive medical “medicine cabinets” before, but I’m always asked what my favorite things are, and which treatments are really worth the money if you have a limited budget.
When I thought about it, it wasn’t difficult! These are the go-to staples I’ve always had on hand no matter what.
These easy-to-use natural remedies are affordable, practical items you may already have in your kitchen, or you can buy at your local health food store without breaking the Amazon, the pump market, or the bank. There are no fancy supplements in this list (though they can be helpful in certain situations).
My favorite (and easiest) natural remedy
The question is… if I was stuck in a desert island, what natural treatment would I do with myself?
The choice was easy.
Before we begin, I am not a doctor and no one plays on the internet, so always consult a health practitioner before using any remedies, especially if you are pregnant, nursing or giving to babies.
Let’s start from the bottom, working up to your # 1 natural remedy …
Chamomile is definitely one of my favorite herbs. It’s a great natural source of magnesium, so it comes with a number of soothing benefits. It’s also great for relieving pain (I like using Tylenol instead).
In addition, the chamomile contains anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory and anti-parasitic properties which make it great for various uses.

I also make these colors handy to remove various ailments, such as menstrual cramps, headaches or stomach bugs. This is my favorite herb to use with children, and it is also safe for infants (which is great news for dentists!)

Activated charcoal is a must for everyone with the family. It works to upset stomachs, food toxins, and even teeth whitening! It reads well for safety and is relatively cheap to buy.
And no, it’s not like the charcoal you use on the grill! Activated charcoal is made from coconut shell, is heated in a certain way, and a multi-step process is followed to put it in several stages. This is the “activation” part of the process.
Due to its insecure nature, the increased surface area of the molecules can bind to any substance. It is useful as poisons and poisons. That’s why you’ll be looking for everything from air filters to water filters to purifying capabilities.
How we use dynamic charcoal:
- Charcoal molasses when a child is sick or has a stomach upset. Or, I mix the contents of the charcoal capsule into apples (but it doesn’t look so delicious).
- As a cleansing face mask (recipe here)
- In a drawing salvo for bug bites
- To whiten my teeth, either mix in my natural toothpaste or use this natural tooth whitening kit.
- In our water filters and air filters
- To avoid accidental poisoning, I will call the poison control center first and arrange it at home if instructed to do so, as not all charcoal is recommended for every situation. Is done.
Note: In my personal experience, do not give activated charcoal to a child that you suspect is a throwaway… unless you have a black vomit anywhere!

3. Elderberry syrup
If I could choose only one natural remedy for the rest of my life, the elder berry would be syrupy. This is the first thing I do when I try to avoid colds / flu in the winter. From my full post on the benefits of elder berry:
Elder berries naturally contain vitamins A, B and C and stimulate the immune system. Israeli researchers found that complex sugars contained in elderly berries support the immune system to fight colds and flu. I order a large number of elderly berries (links below) and make leader berry syrup in my instant pot. When refrigerated, it lasts for weeks.
Here’s how we use it:
Kids love the taste too (it’s like a strong grape or blueberry flavor with a hint of cinnamon) and I love the benefits of it!

Where do I find it: To make my own syrup or sticky, I order a large amount of elderly berries here. If you do not want to make your own, I also trust the herbs and symbolic brands.
2. Apple cider vinegar
Is there anything that apple cider vinegar can’t do? From house cleaning to health promotion, we use about AC ACV every day. For health purposes, you must use apple cider vinegar with “mom”. Wastewater in organic ACVs that is thought to have enormous benefits.
If you have a bunch of apples, you can make your own! Protect the core and the shells, then use them to make this Apple Cider vinegar recipe.
Here’s how we use it:
- Add a teaspoon to a glass of water (or make this ginger clean of honey!) For indigestion, irritation, or stomach upset.
- To eliminate skin problems or reduce body odor in the bath
- Grab a washcloth and apply 25% ACV and 75% water solution on sunburn for instant relief.
- Take on one foot to help relieve athlete’s foot
- Apply 50/50 ACV and water solution to insect bites
- Press on the acne to get rid of the zippers
- As the base of the herbs rinse to strengthen the hair and nourish the scalp

Where do I find it: Make sure you buy raw and unrefined apple cider vinegar (not pasteurized). I usually stick to this brand.
And next, the Best Natural Remedy Award …
If I had to choose a favorite supplement, it would definitely be magnesium.
I’ve learned that # 1 is my # 1 factor in feeling good and healthy at night. Since magnesium supports sleep and rest, it has been a game changer for themselves and their families.
Many people lack this important substance (to know how you are). This is unfortunate as it is responsible for 300 reactive reactions in the body! That means having the proper magnesium in your system is important – you literally can’t survive without it.
Getting enough magnesium last week also helped prevent morning sickness in my last pregnancy.
Both me and my baby take magnesium as a daily supplement (link below), and we use it in home recipes for the whole family as it can be absorbed through the skin as well.
