How to Know If You Have Hashimoto’s Disease (& What to Do)

List box[Hide][Show]

There are signs that many of us can become part of “life”, but some of it is about chronic fatigue, acidity, painful joints, weight loss instability, scalp hair loss and depression. Not normal. In fact, these symptoms are usually telling us that something is happening inside our bodies that we need to get rid of.

I have Hashmoto’s thyroiditis, an autoimmune condition where the body accidentally attacks the thyroid. My assessment was long and frustrating. I have even had symptoms for a long time that I did not know were associated with thyroid problems.

I get daily questions about what to do for my thyroid, how Hashmoto and hypothyroidism were diagnosed, and how to find answers so you can start to feel better.

This post is a compilation of all I have learned about Hashmoto over the years. I have written this post to give you resources so that you can get your answers.

Although I am not a doctor and this is not a medical advice, hopefully sharing it will save you a few calves along the way and speed up the process of finding the right doctor / solution for you.

What is Hashmoto’s Thyroiditis?

You may have heard of Hashmoto’s thyroiditis, as I have written about it in the past. Hashmotus is one of the most common autoimmune diseases in the world. It is also called autoimmune thyroiditis or chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis. What it really is, though, is a literal pain in the neck!

The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped nodule that sits below the neck. It makes hormones that regulate metabolism. This is why thyroid problems can result in weight loss or loss as well as feeling too hot (overactive thyroid) or too cold (underactive thyroid).

In Hashmoto’s case in the United States, men affect 10 times more women than men. While most women will be diagnosed between the ages of 30 and 50, women of any age can develop thyroid problems.

According to the American Thyroid Association, while Hashimoto’s disease is different from hypothyroidism, spontaneous disease is the most common cause of hypothyroidism in the United States.

According to conservative estimates, 1 in 5 women will develop Hashmo or some other type of thyroid disease at some point in their lives. Women suffer from thyroid problems due to a combination of hormones, and autoimmune diseases in general, which is how our bodies react to the environment and genetics.

It may sound like a bold statement, but when you get so tired that it literally hurts to get out of bed, or you get so restless that you think you’re crazy. Are, or your hair will literally not stay on your head. You can see how this disease envelops life as you struggle to get through each day.

Signs and symptoms of Hashimoto’s

Hashmoto shares a lot of symptoms of hypothyroidism. Not reducing thyroid can lead to common symptoms such as fatigue, hair loss, and dry skin. But when you also have an autoimmune component, you are more likely to have chronic pain or related autoimmune disorders.

The signs or symptoms that are common with Hashmoto are:

  • Goiter, or swelling in the neck
  • weight gain
  • Dry skin
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Recurrent sore throat
  • Hair fall
  • Cholesterol rising
  • Muscular weakness
  • Fatigue and tiredness
  • Low heart rate
  • Low body temperature
  • Sensitivity to cold
  • Constipation
  • Joint pain and stiffness
  • Depression and mood swings
  • Impaired memory and poor cognitive ability
  • Heavy menstruation
  • Infertility or abortion
  • Low exercise or activity tolerance

Talk about an awesome list! While most people in Hashmoto will not have every symbol on this list, even just one or two is enough to make you feel terrible.

I had difficulty losing weight and felt tired all the time. I helped them become mothers of young children and sleep well. Unfortunately, new mothers have a higher risk of developing something called postpartum thyroiditis. It can be a temporary form of autoimmune thyroid disease, or it can change permanently.

The difference between Hashmotos and hypothyroidism

If you have symptoms of low thyroid, how can you tell if it is hypothyroidism or Hashmoto? Hashmotose is the most common cause of hypothyroidism, but that doesn’t mean you have to guarantee it.

The best way to understand the cause of your symptoms is to do a proper test. It took me a long time to diagnose because I didn’t really know what I was looking for. If you have symptoms of hypothyroidism, having the right labs can rule out the cause and give you quick answers.

Testing for Hashmoto’s thyroiditis

To get a complete picture of your thyroid health, you need several thyroid tests. Some doctors will only administer TSH, which presents an incomplete picture of what the thyroid is doing. That’s why it took me so long to get a proper diagnosis. To avoid prolonged diagnosis, the following tests should be performed:

  • TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone): This test shows how hard it is to tell the thyroid to make more hormones for the pituitary gland. Elevated levels will indicate hypothyroidism. In the early stages of Hashimoto’s, TSH may be normal.
  • Free T3 and Free T4: These are the active versions of your thyroid hormones. By testing free forms, your doctor will find out how much hormone you have. The suppressed level will indicate the struggle of the thyroid. In Hashmoto’s patients, free T3 and free T4 can be raised or lowered, depending on where you are in the process.
  • Reverse T3: This lab helps you figure out why your T3 or T4 levels may not be as high. In times of stress or hyperthyroidism, the body stores excess T3 as reverse T3.
  • Thyroid peroxidase antibodies and thyroglobulin antibodies: They measure the levels of antibodies that your body has made to attack your thyroid. Normal level, or none at all, indicates that you do not have a hashmoto. Elevated levels may indicate Hashimoto’s or Graves’ disease (hyperthyroid version of autoimmune thyroid disease).
  • Thyroid ultrasound: Some doctors will also examine your thyroid with an ultrasound, especially if you have long-term symptoms or an enlarged thyroid gland. It is important to tell your doctor if you have pain in the bottom of your neck or difficulty swallowing, as these swellings can also be a sign of a thyroid gland.

How to get the right diagnosis

After lab work and testing, it is important to work with a doctor for an official diagnosis. What you need to know is that not every doctor is a thyroid specialist, and some of them may prescribe your symptoms as usual. But if you don’t feel normal, you need to find someone who will take you seriously.

I have a diagnosis. Of struggle It finally happened when I was at a conference and had the opportunity to meet with thyroid specialist Dr. Alan Christian. He reached out and felt my thyroid. He also ran some labs, but based on these things, he quickly diagnosed me with Hashmoto.

I was so relieved to finally get the answer to feel so awesome! Diagnosis can feel overwhelming, but there is a way to feel better. If your doctor says your TSH levels are “normal” and they don’t run other blood tests, it may now be possible to get a second opinion.

What causes Hashmoto’s thyroiditis?

Hashmotus occurs when the body’s immune system accidentally attacks the thyroid. This can be for one or more reasons, but the most common of these risk factors are:

  • Genetics or family history
  • Environmental stimuli (food, stress, toxic, chemical, air pollution, etc.)
  • Leaky intestine (certain trigger foods such as dairy, gluten and soy)
  • The hormone is activated (the baby is born, enters menopause)
  • Another autoimmune disorder (type 1 diabetes, celiac disease, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.)
  • Some viral infections (such as Epstein Barr, Intervirus, Rubella, Mumps, Herpes Simplex, and Parvovirus)
  • Graves’ disease, or autoimmune hyperthyroidism, can also ‘burn’ the thyroid and cause hashish.

Eliseo Fasano is a specialist in lake gut and automation. Their research has shown that while the above-mentioned stimuli, especially in the leaking intestines, can be involved in suicide-relieving cascades, you don’t have to fix everything before you feel better. Of course you can’t control your genes! But you have the ability to solve other elements, and I want to talk about how I did it in my life.

There is no cure for Hashmoto. Once you get rid of your own ailments, you can make an exception. It is possible to be symptom-free and have your antibodies below zero. But the process takes time. You can’t expect to feel completely normal after a few days or weeks.

Still, the changes you make to the Hashmotos solution will benefit your whole life!

How to start feeling better than Hashmoto

I’ve joked before, I came up with the best recipe for automated disease. I wasn’t sleeping, I was really eating badly, and I was stressed all the time. With a genetic predisposition, this lifestyle can easily trigger the power of self.

But if you can live a lifestyle that makes you sick, you can live a lifestyle that helps you deal with it! Part of working towards feeling better than Hashimoto’s is focusing on areas that can improve your illness: diet and nutrients, the environment (like personal care products), gut health, stress and lifestyle. Other factors.

Your doctor will give you a personal plan, but these are the basics of thyroid disease.

Diet and nutrients

Many nutritionists recommend starting with nutrition, and I definitely agree that this is an important first step! Start by eliminating gluten, milk and soy from your diet. When you are trying to restore your health, you may find that paleo or autoimmune paleo options are the best foods to use.

You guys know how I feel about gluten, milk, and soy, so when I found out that these are the recommended measures to mobilize to prevent thyroid disease, it was no brainer. ! You can find mine Health Mama Cookbook Helpful because it’s full of great recipes to help your gut and fill you and your family with delicious nutrients.

Ensure adequate amounts of vitamins and minerals to give the body a chance to fight disease and illness. Many times, people with thyroid disease, and especially Hashmoto, are malnourished. Loading selenium, zinc, vitamin D, and even magnesium will rapidly improve the way you feel.

It’s a great way to replenish your diet with vitamins and minerals. Some people are afraid of vegetables with trouble with thyroid disease, but if they are cooked, you avoid any possible complications. So you don’t have to avoid broccoli, cabbage and Brussels sprouts. In fact, they are full of healthy nutrients!

Don’t go low carb. The thyroid needs carbohydrates to make and replace hormones. Thyroid specialist Dr. Alan Christian, however, recommends eating carbs at night, which is contrary to general advice. Carbs at night help regulate your cortisol and other hormones, promote better sleep, and even help you avoid feeling hungry!

Supplements can also help with healing, but make sure your healthcare provider recommends them and they know what you are taking. Iodine and other “thyroid support” supplements can worsen Hashmoto’s condition.

Personal care products

Our environment is what we live in, but these are the things we breathe and what we carry through our skin. If you have Hashmoto, consider cleaning your personal care products.

Skincare, make-up, lotions, perfumes, hair care and other products make men more sensitive to thyroid-related conditions than men. Women use 12 personal care products with 168 ingredients on a daily basis. Compare that to the person using 6 products with 6 ingredients. The number of both is high, but 168 is almost double!

When we apply lotions and creams on our faces, necks and bodies, it flows into our blood and accumulates in other organs, especially the thyroid. The thyroid is like a reservoir, and instead of releasing toxic water, it covers them. Over time, this becomes a toxic environment. If they are not released properly, they can destroy your thyroid gland by activating the self-stabilizing force.

It was not easy to replace the toxic personal care ingredients with natural products. I have made it my mission to make this work for my family, and I have made it my mission to make it even easier for others. Started a product line. There are many companies doing the same thing.

Gut health

In addition to dietary variations, it provides your body with the tools it needs to help restore gut health. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein, and they are also important for repairing things like tight junctions in your intestinal wall. The gelatin found in bone broth can help promote a healthy intestinal lining. Collagen supplementation can also help.

Proteotics are another important part of intestinal health. Your microbiome is always a mixture of good and bad bacteria, but bad ones are harder than good ones. Your good bacteria need to be replaced often, especially when you have an autoimmune disease. You can do this by eating fermented foods and taking a daily probiotic supplement.

Stress

It’s almost impossible to ever put pressure, I get it. But working to help your physical stress in a healthy way is really important to recovering from Hashmoto.

Creating a healthy sleep routine, where you have a regular bedtime that you want to stick to is a big part of it. If you have young children, it can be targeted or killed, but it’s about costing. The more you try to prioritize sleep, the better.

Expose yourself to the morning sunlight to regulate cortisol and your circadian rhythm. Also very good It doesn’t have to fall on your skin, and you don’t have to try to get a tan. Wake up in the morning light as soon as possible for at least 30 minutes. This will help balance cortisol, melatonin and reduce inflammation in the body.

How long does it take to feel better than Hashmoto?

Your journey in making hashtags is different from mine and anyone else’s. There is no set length of time you are guaranteed to feel better. But it is important to adopt a long-term view. It can take weeks or months to notice a big difference, but as things change over time, they will last longer.

It takes a lot of work to deal with the underlying causes of the symptoms, but the payoff is much better. Apologizing was a decade-long journey for me. But if you are diagnosed sooner than I am, you may feel better.

Should you take Med Medicine for Hashmoto?

Some people who have Hashmoto need thyroid hormone replacement. There is no shame in that! Levothyroxine is a common thing, but it has many options. The medicine that works for someone else may be the one that helps you the most.

I try to avoid medicines whenever possible, but there is a real time and place for traditional medicine. If your thyroid is damaged and cannot make hormones on its own, or if you are being treated by Hashmo’s body, you only need a temporary boost, a thyroid hormone change to make you feel better. I can make a big difference.

I found a natural differentiated version of the Nature Thread, the thyroid hormone. There are many types and your doctor should work with you to determine the best fit for your needs. This often means making sure your diet is right. Too much thyroid hormone can make you feel a little too bad every little bit!

What not to do for Hashmoto

If you have Hashmoto, it is important to address lifestyle and diet to help promote healing. It is also important to avoid things that can make your thyroid disease worse.

Avoid iodine for thyroid disease

The thyroid needs iodine to make hormones. However, small amounts can be obtained from food sources. Iodine supplementation on its own is bad for Hashmoto, and it can automatically trigger an attack and relieve symptoms.

I learned this with difficulty. After taking iodine on the recommendation of a chiropractor, I began to feel very bad. Research also supports this. Hashmoto rates are even higher in countries that add iodine to salt to prevent hypothyroidism! Studies in Sri Lanka, Brazil, China, Greece and India have shown this.

Iodine increases the automatic attack on the thyroid because it slows down the activity of thyroid peroxides, an enzyme needed to make thyroid hormones.

Iodine is depleted when selenium levels are too low, says Dr. Terry Wahles, an autoimmune specialist.
