The Internet is a wonderful tool for modern families. I’ve created a business online that helps me balance the time I spend with my family. There are several ways to use this information at your fingertips that you can improve your earning potential on your schedule.

If you are looking for a second income stream for your family, or would like to expand your skills for more career options, this is a great way to learn online.

Job Skills You Can Learn Online

Whether you are interested in starting a business or want to develop market skills, learning online is a great way. I love learning new skills and encouraging my children to do the same. Here are some ideas for marketable skills you can master, some in just a few weeks or months:

Coding

Our world is becoming digital every day, and coding is in demand. Even if you do not intend to be a developer, knowing some basic coding is a great skill. This can be especially helpful if you run a website or do business online. Codecademy is my family’s favorite resource for learning code, but below are other resources that offer coding education.

Blogging

I made Well Valence Mama to help more people live healthier lives with my limited time. I didn’t get to meet a lot of Windows clients at home so the blog became an easy way to reach these clients.

Although blogging is certainly hard work, it does provide some of the flexibility and independence of time that mom (especially) needs. If you are interested in blogging, I highly recommend this course because it helps you create a blog from scratch.

If you want to know, read my blogging story or see the full list of favorite blogging resources.

Photography

If you have a look at great shots, photography is a great way to make some extra money (or a full-time thriving business). But you may need to acquire your expertise before trying to market it. Fortunately there are several options in the list below to improve your photography skills.

There are many ways you can go with photography. From weddings to portraits to stock photos, you’ll be able to find a curriculum that can help you learn the photography of your interests. Try Skillshare or Adams for affordable or direct courses.

Writing

As online business grows, so does the demand for written content. Another great way to make money from home is to write. If you have basic writing skills, you can easily learn how to write money.

First, you want to decide what type of writing you like. Are you involved in news, investigative journalism, lifestyle articles, or fiction? Do you have the skills to lend yourself to technical writing? Or, if you have a marketing or sales background, you may want to consider copyright.

To improve your skills you may need to take a course (check the list below) on the writing you choose so you can build your business! Writing skills are also marketable in many traditional jobs, and put you ahead of other applicants.

Learn a language

We live in a global world, so knowing more than one language can help business and life faster. Knowing the second (or third) language can put you at the top of the list for new jobs or promotions in your current job. My family uses Du Lingo to learn the language. Skillshare also offers a variety of language courses (including American Sign Language).

We also like the Musk method for learning by ear, which is quite different from traditional classroom learning (I did a podcast on this method as well).

Video editing

It’s easy to learn how to edit videos (using apps like Premier or iMovie) with the online options available. Once you know how to edit a video using one app, it’s easy to switch to another if needed. If you have the skills you can edit videos for YouTubers and others who need regularly edited videos. You can also teach others how to edit a video in relation to another revenue stream. There are many video editing courses to choose from on LinkedIn Learning but you will also find them on most of the websites below.

Public address

Learning to speak in front of a crowd is difficult for most people, which is why learning is such a great skill! Whether you are interested in becoming a speaker or just want to add extra skills to your to-do list, public speaking is an easy learning skill at home using Corsair. Public speaking skills can also be helpful if you want to become a video maker or podcast maker on YouTube.

Finance

There are many ways that gaining finance skills can be helpful in your life and career. Whether you are just interested in improving your personal finance skills or you want to know about stocks, bonds, and investment portfolios, today’s financial knowledge is quite worth the trade. Courses are a great place to visit first, because their courses are often free and provided by many Ivy League schools.

Learning online for business

If you have some basic skills in a specific discipline but need to improve to market this skill, I highly recommend you use online resources to improve your ability. ۔ You are likely to find the perfect class for searching one of these sites:

Edema

It’s a favorite home schooling resource and I’ve taken many of their classes myself (Japanese, anyone?). Entrepreneurship is a place where professionals, teachers, and experienced workers create amazing content to share their skills. Edemy uses a pay per course model which is great for those who need extra time to finish each course. Prices are low (some are free) so this is a good place to start building new skills. Check them out here.

Craft lion

This membership site offers 22 22,000 courses for a low monthly fee. Courses range from minimal to coding so you should definitely find something that suits your interests or goals. Since you pay one price to access all the courses, you can potentially take multiple courses for a lower fee. Start here.

Ultimate bundle

I have loved Ultimate Bundles for many years now, where you can buy the best ebooks and digital content on one topic at the same price together. They have bundles that focus on business, blogging, productivity, home making, and more. Ultimate Bundles in particular are a collection of business bundles eBook and digital resources to help you build your business on a steep discount. The bundle comes only once or twice a year so you have to keep your eyes peeled for it. But it’s worth the wait! Follow their bundle calendar here.

LinkedIn Learning (linda.com)

LinkedIn Learning has a great collection of courses in various subjects. This is a monthly subscription, and then you have access to any course you want. These courses are taught by industry leaders so that you can develop in your current career or become a freshman. Because it’s linked to LinkedIn, one of the most trusted networking and job search platforms, you can be sure that the skills are consistent and in demand. See what they offer.

Online accredited college courses

Many accredited and Ivy League schools are offering their classes online for free or at low prices. Courses range from children’s nutrition to Einstein’s Theory of Relation.

  • Adx dot org. You can audit classes for free or get a certificate for a small fee. Access classes from universities like Harvard and UC Berkeley.
  • Coursera – This website offers courses from various universities. You can audit classes for free or pay a fee to get full access to rating assignments and certifications. There is also financial support available, which is a great option for many people.
  • Class Central – Similar to the above websites, but Class Central also lists some courses that are placed on other websites. This course website focuses specifically on free courses.

Many universities also have their online classes available directly on their website, so check them out, too.

Job skills to learn at home

It doesn’t take long to find a course or set of courses that you can learn anything you want to know about. It can be a tough balance, but it is very important when parents can learn from home when we have it.

It’s true, sometimes learning online can never lead to a different kind of place. Yet, advances in technology and streaming have provided incredible resources from experts that we once had to travel or even learn to move on!

Another benefit of learning at home: Our children get to see our example that learning never stops! We encourage our children to use screen time to research creative interests or to develop skills that translate into real-life outcomes. They are interested in business as well.

If you are looking for skills development so that you can start a business or apply for a wonderful job, consider learning through the aforementioned website.

Have you ever tried any of these online learning options? What business skills are you interested in from home?
