There are many reasons to dig plastic (especially around food!). But things are as simple as escaping a plastic wrap. A reusable food wrap made of fabric and wax material is a great way to get the best out of both worlds without any harmful effects.

And they are beautiful and beautiful to look at.

Why reusable food wrap?

Plastic wrap, aluminum foil, and plastic containers are commonly known for food storage. Although they are not the best option. Plastics contain endocrine disruptors such as BPA. How to make your own DIY wax wax food wraps

There are many different ways to make them, but this one is the one that worked best for me. Some recipes call for pine rosin (also called pine resin), while others are just wax, wax and oil. I tried a version with very few pine roses and it had zero stick. Clip-wrapped alternatives don’t work so well in my book if they don’t, well; they’re complicated.

Ingredients and supplies:



  • Preheat the oven to 250 degrees F.

  • Combine jojoba oil, wax wax and pine rose in a mason jar.

  • Place the steamer basket in the pot and pour the mason jar over it. Fill the pot almost completely with water. You want to cover the wax mixture as much as possible, without pouring water on the stove. Or get something in a jar.

  • Heat over medium-high heat, stirring, about 20 minutes, until well combined. Pine glen takes longer to melt and has to be scraped from the bottom during stirring. I used a disposable wooden shop stick for easy cleaning.

  • While the wax mixture is melting, cut the fabric to the desired shape. I did 8×8 and some 11×11 squares. Throwing scissors are ideal for avoiding clogged edges, but regular scissors will also work.

  • Cover the cookie sheet with parchment paper and spread a piece of cloth on top. Brush the melted wax mixture evenly on the fabric. It will harden quickly, but that’s fine. You want to satisfy the fabric, but not more.

  • Bake the cookie sheet in the oven for about 2 minutes, or until the wax mixture melts.

  • Use a brush to spread the mixture evenly over the fabric. You have to put it back in the oven and repeat the process.

  • Lay another piece of fabric on the wax cloak you just made and press to press more.

  • If you are wrapping too much, the parchment paper may need to be partially replaced. I found out that I was starting to get very dirty and overcooked.

  • When you’re at the final wrap, use a paper towel to wipe off the excess wax mixture.

  • Once wrapped, hang it to dry. I put the back of my kitchen chairs to dry.

  • Hint: Wrapping will be difficult at first, but will dry out in an hour or so.

This is a very simple project, but it may be necessary to address a few issues in terms of your fabric, moisture in your area, etc.

I turned out to be very sticky; what should I do?

If the wrap is sticky after drying for several hours, there are some simple fixes.

  • Put them back in the oven and stain with a paper towel (I did).
  • Some people prefer to use iron. Wrap and keep several paper towels and iron the paper towels.

What if they are not sticky enough?

  • There may not be enough wax in the fabric.
  • Fabrics can be very thick. Thinner material, like bedsheets, works best.
  • If all else fails, you can always use a rubber band or kitchen utensil to secure the envelope to your link.

How long does waxing wrap last?

If left unmanaged, they can be left astray and lose the right path. Every 6-12 months you can refresh the wrap so that it sticks. Put the sheet back in the oven and brush it with a fresh coat of wax mixture.

How do you clean them?

We are using all food safe ingredients and jojoba oil has natural antibacterial and antifungal properties (source). However, it is important to keep the wrap clean.

  • Wrap the wax food in cold, soapy water.
  • Do not use hot water as it will damage the fabric cover.
  • Somewhere dry, like the back of a wooden or metal chair.

Can you use them on all foods?
